I Walked into a Parking Meter

. . . while staring into my cell phone and trying to walk on the street simultaneously.

Please share your opinions with me on this topic.  I think that millions of people are basically bored and would rather walk around town focused on a cell phone, blackberry or music player than observe the world around them.

I am sceptical about something and am seeking opinions . . .

When I see people in public focused on the screen ( is that the right term?) of a cell phone or a berry-berry I am reminded of scenes from old science-fiction television. Is it possible that these people are just socially awkward and these devices give them the courage to go out of the house?
